eBill Direct Debit: Modern and Efficient

LSV+/BDD will be officially discontinued at the end of September 2028; from that point on, SIX’s eBill Direct Debit module will be used. As one of the first banking software providers, Finstar has already implemented the project in collaboration with SIX and is making the application available to its customers more than two years before the deadline—it has been in use at Hypothekarbank Lenzburg since the end of 2025.
Increasing Competitiveness
As a developer of a core banking solution, Finstar’s goal is to meet regulatory requirements and the evolving needs of financial institutions. With the implementation of eBill Direct Debit, Finstar offers a modern, customer-friendly, and efficient payment solution that automates digital invoice exchange, reduces returned direct debits and other manual interventions, and supports the digitization of payment transactions. eBill Direct Debit meets the demand from corporate and retail customers for intuitive, simple, and secure payment processes and enhances banks’ competitiveness.
Two years ahead
Given that the traditional direct debit system is set to be phased out and eBill Direct Debit must be implemented by September 2028, more and more banks are recognizing the need for action. As a result, several Finstar partner banks had already technically integrated eBill Direct Debit by the spring of 2026. For the Lenzburg-based banking software developer, the decision to implement the system early was driven by several factors: In addition to the strategic necessity of replacing the familiar direct debit system and the demand for efficient payment processes, the technological maturity of the software supported rapid implementation—eBill Direct Debit could be integrated into the Finstar core banking system in a streamlined and scalable manner. This allows Finstar banks to rely on a standardized, competitive, and regulatory-compliant solution at an early stage.
Three Steps to Success
Finstar approached the integration of eBill Direct Debit from a strategic, architectural, and operational perspective. The process began with a detailed impact analysis to understand the effects on the core banking system modules and the surrounding systems. The focus was on interfaces, payment transactions, and e-banking. Next, the team evaluated how the new solution could be integrated as efficiently and effectively as possible into Finstar’s existing architecture. In the third step, the technical implementation was designed and carried out based on SIX’s specifications, in close collaboration with various partners. Thanks to Finstar’s modularity and flexibility, as well as the existing eBill integration, eBill Direct Debit could be easily implemented into the existing core banking solution and the Finstar banks’ systems. The approach was to seamlessly integrate eBill Direct Debit—from the core to the user interface—into the existing and familiar digital channels.

Lower Costs, Greater Convenience
Whether you’re a business or a personal bank client, the benefits of eBill Direct Debit are clear: bills are paid on time, securely, and fully automatically. Errors when entering payments are eliminated, and all payments are up-to-date and transparently visible in online banking at all times. In addition to efficiency gains and cost savings, the bank benefits from stronger customer loyalty thanks to a modern, digital service offering. As a first mover, Finstar has been making the new eBill Direct Debit module available to its eBill partner banks since early 2026. The challenge for the banks now is to raise awareness of the new offering among corporate and private customers and to convince as many billers and payees as possible of the benefits of this new standard for modern, transparent, and efficient payments.
